January Chapter Meeting

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE NEXT HAWKEYE ASTD CHAPTER SITE MEETING:

FRIDAY, JANUARY 8, 11:30 TO 1:00

We talked employee engagement during a couple 2009 meetings so to start off 2010, we thought it might be beneficial to take that conversation a little further and ask Dan Day and Kate Richards, principals of the Minneapolis agency Brandtender Marketing, for this insightful learning on how engaged employees make an impact on your organization.

During this workshop you’ll discover the DNA of your organization—the individual styles, generations and cultures of employees—and how it can be used to differentiate your brand in the marketplace.  Specifically you will learn:

    - What a “Brandtender” is and does

    - The three things the world’s best brands do well when it comes to employees

    - How to align employees with your brand and empower them to represent it

    - How these “engaged learners” can have a huge impact on your company

    - Best practices from companies like Best Buy and Wellsfargo

To RSVP: Click on the Leadership Team tab of www.hawkeyeast.org to find the email address for the site coordinator in your area.

Announcements

What a great all-chapter meeting last Friday in Manchester!

A very interactive workshop allowed guests and new members the opportunity to get acquainted with the tenured members at our last event for 2009.

With Thanksgiving next week, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the 2009 Board for their involvement this year.   They are the reason Friday the 13th was such a success.  Thank you: Karen Schumacher, Deb Oliver, Joanne Koopman, Sheila Schmidt, Dan Block, Kim Recker, Lisa Bowers, Tanya Benson, and Jade Handy for a successful year.

Lastly, there were a few announcements from the meeting that we want to make sure everyone has:

  • Pay your 2010 Hawkeye ASTD dues by December 15, 2009 to get the 2009 rates of $40 for single, $200 for Corporate and $20 for student. Many have already taken advantage of this savings.
  • If you renew your National ASTD dues or buy from the ASTD online store, be sure to include our chapter code, 6101, as we get credit for the membership on our CORE requirements and a rebate for store items.
  • Based on your survey feedback, meetings for 2010 will continue on the 2nd Friday of each month.
  • Mark your calendar now for Friday, January 8th from 11:30 to 1:00 for the first site meeting of 2010. Topic TBD.
  • The 2010 Board will be meeting in December to finalize calendar dates and topics so watch for a calendar announcement or check the Event Calendar on the Hawkeye ASTD website.

Today, for the first time ever, four generations are working sidebyside in the American workplace. Organizations are feeling the pain of generation gaps as they struggle to manage productivity and morale, while maintaining high standards of quality and service in a challenging economy.

As training professionals, we are pivotal in defining the unique challenges and framing the solutions for issues created by this new American workforce. Proposed solutions include an emphasis on identifying generational values, attitudes, work styles, and increasing awareness for operating effectively within a multi-generational workplace.

Please RSVP to your site coordinator.  Cedar Rapids will meet at KTOS,  Waterloo/Cedar Falls at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Dubuque at American Trust.
